Purpose: This study aims to investigate the ability of patient-centered communication to mediate the relationship between having a usual source of care and health-related quality of life in patients with chronic disease.
Methods: We conducted a mediation regression analysis for 3,050 patients with chronic illnesses identified in the 2018 Korea Health Panel Survey. The research model was designed based on the PROCESS Macro model 4 by Hayes and analyzed using the SPSS 27.0 program.
Results: These results demonstrate a positive indirect mediating effect of patient-centered communication on the relationship between a clinic-level customary healthcare provider and health-related quality of care among patients with chronic illness.
Conclusion: These study findings support the development of programs to strengthen patient-centered communication among doctors and support the provision of patients with chronic illnesses with customary healthcare providers.
